technology-298256_640By now, it should be obvious to everyone. Hand-helds are the new Kings of the computer world. The PC is dead, long live the Hand-held! In this brave new world however, there are some things about the PC that many of us find we actually miss. So, indulge in a little nostalgia as we mentally sit down and power up our old PC.

Stationary

The great thing about handhelds is that you can take them with you wherever you go. They're always there, and with proper charging and a solar powered charger, they're always on, and that means that you're always on. That by the way, is also the worst thing about handhelds. Isn't it nice to be able to just walk away once in a while? To not feel obligated to race back to the house to pick up your smartphone? They're like crack for the tech-savvy; we've convinced ourselves that we simply cannot be without them, ever.

A Full Sized Keyboard

For people with big hands, typing with thumbs on even a fairly large phone is a tedious, cumbersome process. There's just no substitute for a full sized keyboard. I can type nearly a hundred words a minute on my PC. I'm lucky to manage twenty with my oversized thumbs on my ridiculously small smartphone, and that is annoying.

Less Maintenance

Touch screens need constant cleaning because we're forever tapping, poking, and swiping at them. Your PC monitor might need to get dusted off every now and again, but it's nowhere near as high maintenance as your smartphone's screen.

Durability

The only time you were at risk of dropping your PC is when you were moving it, which only happened once in a blue moon. On the other hand, your poor little fragile smartphone is in constant danger of being dropped, banged, dinged, or otherwise damaged, and let's face it, they're really not all that durable in the first place.

More Bling Options

Sure, you can bling up your little 4-5” smartphone, which takes all of about thirty seconds. My trusty Dino-PC (still running Windows XP ncidentally) has a variety of stickers decorating it, going back some five years. An ex girlfriend even painted on it with nail polish. It's fabulous, it's personal history and you don't get much of that with your smartphone.

Warmth

Often, offices can be downright freezing. It was never a worry when I had a giant tower case down by my feet with a 600w power supply. It met all my computing needs and kept my toes warm. There's not a smartphone in existence that can do that!

Ease Of Use

Practice makes perfect of course, but most of us grew up with PC's, and we just know how to use them better and more efficiently. I can copy files to my cloud drive significantly faster with my PC and a mouse than I can trying to flip and flick my way around my little phone.

More Desktop Real Estate

It's just nice to have everything you need laid out logically, right in front of you and not have to go flipping from page to page in a frantic attempt to find whatever it is you're looking for.

Yes, the PC did have a lot going for it, and chances are that is the not to distant future, this particlar wheel will be reinvented.
